“U Pivrnce” was opened on 12th of December 1994. Since its establishment the
restaurant was decorated with original paintings that displayed attitude and affection of Czechs towards their national drink. The pub was full of handpainted juicy jokes created by Petr Urban with beer as their main character.

Petr Urban is one of the most famous painters in the Czech Republic. In his youth he was professional athlete and luger and participated two times in the Winter Olympics in Calgary and Albertville. Now he lives with his wife Inka and his dog in Smrzovka in the north of the Czech Republic. His daily routine is: wake up at 11 a.m., have some coffee, watch TV and around 4 p.m. he goes to the atelier a paints to the 2–3 a.m.

Are you asking why “U Pivrnce”? Ruda Pivrnec was created 30 years ago by Petr Urban and embodies a typical Czech guy that enjoys few (by `few` we mean a lot of ) pints of beer. During the last three decades, Petr Urban has gained popularity thanks to thousands of jokes about adventures of Ruda Pivrnec. Those have now become a part of Czech culture. His cartoon hero Ruda Pivrnec can always handle any life situation with his passion for beer and for his unique sense of humor.

Unfortunately, due to the flood in 2002, most of the cartoons were destroyed and only two originals remained. In 2016, the restaurant went through major reconstruction which created an opportunity for Petr Urban to create new cartoons made on the wallpaper. Today, whenever the father of these cartoons comes for few pints of beer to “U Pivrnce” he adds new gags and messages as well as the visitors from all around the world.
